Upon closer inspection of the Aztec, Officer Patterson noticed a dead woman [Jennifer Webb] with a cord around her neck. The other end of the cord was wrapped around the Aztec roof carrier, and Webb's body was partially in the deep ditch.

Officer Patterson testified that Officer Bluew found an apparent suicide note inside the Aztec, and that Bluew also took photos of the scene.

Things at the scene began to appear to be suspicious to Officer Patterson when he found Jennifer Webb's cell phone in her vehicle...

On Jennifer's cell phone, Officer Patterson testified that he found: "Ken Cop Boo". "In my mind it went to: Ken's a cop and she was talking to him".

At that point, the investigation took took a different direction: from an apparent suicide to a homicide.
