WESTLAND, MI – A recently hired Westland Police officer is facing charges and an internal investigation in two separate domestic violence incidents against the same woman in one day involving a punch and strangulation, FOX 2 Detroit reports.
Sebastian Iavasile, who graduated from the Wayne County Regional Police Academy in May, was arrested twice on Sunday, Aug. 22, for assaults against a 24-year-old woman. He faces charges in both incidents, including one felony, and is on administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted.
The felony charge stems from the second incident, which occurred in Northville where he allegedly struck and strangled his girlfriend. He faces charges of felony assault with intent to do great bodily harm and domestic violence. He was granted a $5,000 personal bond and is scheduled to be in court on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
The first incident happened in Livonia where Iavasile allegedly punched the woman in the nose. He is charged with domestic violence, and assault and battery. He was released from custody on a cash bond of $3,000/10%. His next court appearance is Thursday, Sept. 9.

WESTLAND, Mich. - A recent hire at the Westland Police Department has been charged in multiple domestic violence cases after he allegedly punched his girlfriend before strangling her.
Officer Sebastian Iavasile was arrested twice on Aug. 22 early for two separate incidents in Livonia and Northville for assaulting a 24-year-old woman.
Both incidents prompted calls from police and include separate charges.
According to a Wayne County Prosecutor's Office press release, Iavasile punched his girlfriend in the nose in Livonia. He was charged with a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery.
Then, later on Aug. 22 at 1:28 a.m., Northville police were called to an apartment where the same 24-year-old woman alleged she was physically assaulted by her boyfriend. According to the prosecutor's office, Iavasile struck the woman and strangled her.
Following a warrant request that was signed the same day, he was charged with felony assault with intent to do great bodily harm and another misdemeanor domestic violence charge.
In the Livonia case, he was given a cash bond of $3,000/10% during his arraignment and his next court date is Sept. 9.
In the Northville case, he was given a $5,000 personal bond and is scheduled for an examination on September 1.

DETROIT – Newly hired Westland police officer Sebastian Iavasile is in trouble.
He was arrested over the weekend. Northville Township police said they arrested Iavasile around 2 a.m. on Aug. 22.
According to a spokesperson for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Iavasile punched his 24-year old girlfriend in the nose.
Around 1:28 a.m. on the day of the incident Northville police were called to an apartment where the woman alleged she was physically assaulted by her boyfriend.
The defendant allegedly struck the woman and strangled her. He is facing charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and a domestic violence misdemeanor.
Westland Police Chief Jeff Jedrusik said the officer was just sworn in on July 6.
Jedrusik released a statement about the incident.
“I recently learned of the off duty domestic violence incident involving Sebastian Iavasile. His involvement in the off duty incident has resulted in criminal charges against him. There will be a separate Westland Police internal investigation taking place regarding his employment. He is a newly hired police officer who was still in the training program. At this point in time he has been placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement read.
Iavasile was arraigned and told the judge he was not guilty.
