On November 19, 2014, the following comment was left on this post, demanding to know who the heck I thought I was and wanting to know why this case is still important.
You see, Officer Thompson pled guilty to the CSC, under the conditions that he would not have to register as a sex offender and that the charge would be wiped clean from his record once he finished probation. Therefore the newspaper articles and the MIOIDV contain the only records of this case. Apparently, from the sounds of this comment, that pisses off either Officer Thompson or someone close to him:
Also, If you think about it this all could have been a lie from the females who charged. If it wasn't important then, why is it important now? I know this man And he is a great role model to his kids. So is his brother who was charged. My question is who are you? November 19, 2014 at 7:42 AM

Thompson had been dismissed from the Mainstee Police Department in 2006, following a domestic violence assault.

BENZIE COUNTY, MI-- A former Manistee police officer is facing two felony sexual assault charges resulting from alleged assaults on relatives dating back more than a decade, a northern Michigan newspaper is reporting.
Matthew Shane Thompson, 39, faces two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct stemming from assaults police allege happened in Benzie County between 1987 and 1994, the Traverse City Record-Eagle reported today.
The charges come after a Michigan State Police investigation involving Thompson's brother, Michael Thompson, who has been charged with several assaults against two of the same women.
Matthew Thompson worked for 10 years as a Manistee city police officer. He left the department in 2006 around the time he was convicted of domestic violence, Police Chief David Bachman told the Traverse City paper.
Thompson, a Manistee resident, was arrested Friday and is free on bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on the charges, the Record-Eagle reported.

BEULAH — A former Manistee city police officer faces two felony sex charges.
Matthew Shane Thompson, 39, is charged in Benzie County with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. The charges stem from alleged assaults of two female relatives between 1987 and 1994, court documents show.
Thompson's brother, Michael Thompson, was sentenced in March to a minimum of 10 years in prison on five counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. A Michigan State Police trooper investigating Michael Thompson learned of alleged wrongdoing by his brother and started another investigation.
Matthew Thompson for 10 years worked as a police officer at the Manistee City Police Department. He left the department in 2006 about the time he was convicted of domestic violence, Manistee Chief David Bachman said.
Thompson lives in Manistee, but is charged in Benzie County because authorities believe the crimes happened when he lived there several years ago.
Trooper Rick Doehring, who handled the investigation, said he believes Thompson hasn't engaged in inappropriate activity with the alleged victims in recent years. He isn't aware of other victims.
"If something were to come forward we would certainly investigate it, but I have nothing to indicate there is anyone else out there," he said.
The two victims connected to Matthew Thompson's charges also were assaulted by Michael Thompson, Doehring said. They represent two of his five criminal charges.
Thompson was arrested on Friday and is free on bond. He's scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Thursday.
He couldn't be reached for comment.
